About Us

Uttam London was founded over 10 years ago by Uttam Nepal, who in 1994 was selling knitwear from his home country of Nepal, in London's popular Camden Market. The fashion for hand-made ethnic clothing and bags made his collection increasingly popular towards the end of the 1990s and the brand enjoyed considerable growth. Uttam clothing acquired a reputation for its vibrant colours, hand-stitched embroidery, and creative embellishments using beads, sequins and jewels, and became widely recognised for its eye-catching womenswear, childrenswear, and accessories with local, national, and international customers. The continuing growth and success of the brand led to the development of the Uttam Direct website, and the launch of the stylish new Yumi brand.

Inspired by the East, our designs embrace the traditions and beauty of Nepal, India, and Japan. We only sell clothes by Uttam and Yumi, whose styles are created by a design team renowned for using techniques such as patchwork, tie-dye, applique, hand-stitched beading and embroidery, and printed knitwear, chiffons, and silks. The ranges are developed with close contact with the factories - often involving several sample stages until the design is perfected. The Uttam and Yumi brands are both 'fast fashion' labels, which mean they provide the most up-to-date styles, colours, and fabrics.
